Magical Mozart and serene Sibelius in the first half, humorous Haydn in the second. Finnish violinist and director Pekka Kuusisto combines his talents to bring us two teenage works, Sibelius portrayal of the tenderness and delicacy of first love and Mozart's fun-filled attempt to curry favour with a new employer. More Mozart fun comes with the mock-Turkish effects in his most colourful violin concerto. And if you ever wanted to know where Beethoven got the idea for the famous opening of his Fifth Symphony, an answer may be given by the captivating Haydn Symphony which is sometimes given the nickname "The Letter V" in honour of its use of a rhythm which was later used to represent the letter in Morse code.
