Erkki-Sven Tüür and Olivier Cong – The Wind with a Voice
HK PHIL × WESTK
Programme
Both Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür and Hong Kong composer Olivier Cong are forward-looking artists. Inspired by various kinds of music, such as folk, classical, electronic and rock, both of them developed their own unique musical styles. Tüür wishes to stimulate the creative energy of the listeners, inviting them to feel the overwhelming power of music, human emotions of rage, pain, remorse, hope as well as the tenderness of the redeeming love . Cong's musical style, on the other hand, inclines to infiltrate a gloomy atmosphere by writing a wide range of music works and creating many site-specific projects and sound installations across Hong Kong.
For this special programme, Cong curates a selection of Tüür's music in parallel with his own, fostering a music conversation between the Baltic Sea region and Asia. Architectonics VI, piano trio Fata Morgana and string quartet The Lost Prayers are among the works by Tüür. Cong will rework a selection of pieces from his to-be-released album Tropical Church: “Burning”, “Solace”, “The Response” and “A Prayer of Mine” are among the music on the playlist.
As an added element to the concert, both composers will present video clips filmed from their respective countries during the live performance to fuel audiences' imaginations and amuse them with an unforgettable experience.
The wind blows across the two lands.
Music speaks softly through the wind.
