Katrina Rafferty
British violinist, Katrina Rafferty, comes from a violin playing family. She was 4 when she received her first lessons at home from her father. Two years later she joined the Huddersfield Primary Youth Orchestra, and went on to lead all the youth orchestras in her area, playing in many musicals and chamber music concerts, often collaborating with her mother and brother.
Katrina continued her studies at the Royal College of Music, London, and after graduating joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro David Atherton. She left to continue her studies at the University of Oklahoma, obtaining a Master’s degree. She was a member of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Go for Baroque chamber ensemble, and the renowned Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.
In 1996 Katrina returned to Hong Kong to teach at the Academy for Performing Arts, and freelance as an orchestral player, concertmaster, and soloist with a variety of ensembles including the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Virtuosi, the Hong Kong Pure Strings, the Hong Kong Singers, the Macao Orchestra, and Faust International Youth Theatre, and with artists Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung, Alan Tam, Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Faye Wong, Kenny G, Sarah Brightman, Olivia Newton-John, and, most recently, the boy band Mirror.
At the beginning of the 2005/06 Season, Katrina rejoined the HK Phil under the baton of Artistic Director Edo de Waart, and in Autumn 2020 co-founded the Phoenix Quartet.
