Our Principal Oboe Michael Wilson and Hong Kong pianist Rachel Cheung present two pieces by Schumann, written in 1849. The first, Drei Romanzen (“Three Romances”), was written in just three days for the composer’s wife as a Christmas present, and is Schumann’s only piece for oboe and piano. The second, Drei Fantasiestücke (“Three Fantasy Pieces”), was actually written for clarinet and piano, but in this performance, Michael and Rachel will perform the oboe and piano version.
