Discover Classical Romance – Concert by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil)
As one of the foremost orchestras in Asia, the HK Phil has long accredited to be the model of many associates in the field. Over 30 years of cultivation, the HK Phil has established herself as an outstanding orchestra which connects both local and overseas elites and attracting many first-class artists to join the stage. Conductors and soloists who have recently performed with the orchestra include Vladimir Ashkenazy, Charles Dutoit, Christoph Eschenbach, Matthias Goerne, Stephen Hough, Lang Lang, Yo-Yo Ma, Ning Feng and Yuja Wang.
In January 2019, the Huafa & cpaa Grand Theatre is pleased to invite the HK Phil for the first concert of the year with conductor David Stern, presenting Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture and Sinfonia Concertante. Premiered in 1787, the Don Giovanni Overture is adopted from the homonymous 2-act opera. The overture is a clear depiction on the life of the hippy protagonist, presenting his optimistic and delighted personality through highlighting the enthusiasm and vitality in the music. The Austrian composer splendid connection of the Overture with the opera is as well fascinating. The Sinfonia Concertante, is as well a popular piece in many classical concerts and recordings. The concerts will also bring you Rott’s Symphony in E, the work composed in his 20s, which brought him into stardom.
