[17 October 2014, Hong Kong] Be one of the “Musicians” in the Swire Symphony Under The Stars, the largest outdoor symphonic event of the year given by The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) at The New Central Harbourfront on 21 November (Fri).

Swire Symphony Under The Stars is in its eighth year and is the most important public event of the Orchestra’s dedicated drive to bring classical music into the community. This year we cordially invite the public to join our “Virtual Orchestra” to play Offenbach’s Can-Can. We are now calling for anyone interested to record their performance of our arranged music, upload to YouTube, and let us know.  Selected videos of different instruments will be synchronised to create a full orchestra, and will be broadcast at the HK Phil’s Swire Symphony Under The Stars outdoor concert on 21 Nov 2014, as well as on YouTube.

Submit your video before 7 November 2014 (Friday), join with friends across the internet to play music with the HK Phil virtual orchestra, and have a chance of winning a pair of Swire Symphony Under The Stars tickets! The HK Phil will contact the successful candidates about ticket arrangement via email on or before 14 Nov 2014 (Fri).

Three simple steps to participate:

  1. Select your instrument/voice part, download our specially arranged scores and audio-track [http://bit.ly/1F2h6BQ]
  2. Put on your headphones and record yourself playing to our Master Audio-Track [http://bit.ly/1txgS2G]
  3. Upload the video to YouTube and send us a Facebook message with your details (including your video Youtube link, name, email address, contact number, your home country or the district in HK where you live)! (https://www.facebook.com/HKPhil)

Submission Deadline: 7 Nov 2014 (Fri)

Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra
Music Director: Jaap van Zweden

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is the city’s largest and busiest musical organisation and is a vital part of Hong Kong’s cultural life. With its roots stretching back well over a century, the HK Phil made its professional début in 1974. It has now evolved into an orchestral powerhouse in the region, and an acclaimed cultural centrepiece of Asia’s World City.

The HK Phil is formed on the belief that a great city deserves a great orchestra. Annually it presents over 150 concerts attracting 200,000 music lovers. Through its acclaimed education programme, over 40,000 young people have learned about orchestral music last year. Featuring an enviable roster of international conductors and soloists, the HK Phil performs a broad variety of music, with many concerts presented free; among them the annual Swire Symphony Under The Stars.

The Swire Group has been the Principal Patron of the HK Phil since 2006. Through this sponsorship, which is the largest in the orchestra’s history, Swire also endeavours to promote artistic excellence, provide access and stimulate cultural participation in Hong Kong, and to enhance Hong Kong’s reputation as one of the great cities of the world.

The HK Phil’s members come from every corner of the globe, with a strong core of Hong Kong musicians. In September 2012 Jaap van Zweden became the orchestra’s Music Director. Future years will see an ambitious series of new projects, with major international tours, renewed local partnerships and large-scale concert events. The HK Phil has commenced a multi-CD recording project for Naxos featuring works by Chinese composers.
