Our 40th season opens with a fitting Chinese fanfare from Bright Sheng. Next comes the ultimate musical firebrand – Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto, a conversation between orchestra and piano brimming with emotion and revolutionary verve. Dvořák’s ninth symphony captures the exhilaration of discovery, but not without a poignant look back to the old – which has become one of the best loved moments in all music. Join Jaap van Zweden and gala star Jean-Yves Thibaudet as the new season begins.
