Schumann 3 & 4
Schumann Fest
Programme
Named after region where Schumann had taken up a new posting, the third symphony resounds with sunny and bright optimism, tempered by solemn, ceremonial music inspired by a grand procession. In his fourth symphony, Schumann reached great heights of musical expression – a journey from darkness into a blaze of light, at the very apogee of German romanticism. The Piano Concerto was composed by Schumann for his young wife Clara – a robust dialogue for piano and orchestra, performed in this concert by young piano star Zhang Haochen.
