Liszt Piano Concertos
MASTERWORKS B
Programme
Mark Wigglesworth dazzled in his 2011 HK Phil début. In intriguing return concerts, he teams with insightful piano virtuoso Stephen Hough to perform both of Liszt’s piano concertos. From storms to dreamlike meditations, these works capture Liszt’s musical poetry. Framing them are works with aristocratic connections – to mark his centenary year, Britten’s Sinfonia da Requiem, a provocative tribute to the Japanese Emperor which caused a diplomatic scandal. Haydn’s Ninetieth Symphony, composed for the Paris elite, bubbles with his characteristic wit and good humour.
Stephen Hough will sign autographs after the concert on 8 Jun.
