Yu Yuan-chun
Yu Yuanchun is a professional Pipa teacher at the Central Conservatory of Music. She has previously served as professional pipa performer with the China National Traditional Orchestra and as an artist specially invited by UNESCO. She learned the Pipa as a child and studied with Zhou Xianshun, Li Guanghua and Fan Wei. She has won first and second places in major competitions, including the Golden Bell Award, Taipei Concerto Contest and the CCTV National Instrumental TV Contest in 2012. Yu is one of the most active and important Chinese musicians.
In recent years, she has been invited to visit more than 30 countries and regions as a solo performer, and has performed on many of the world’s top stages including the Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and Berlin Philharmonic Hall. In the past two years, Yu has launched two series of Pipa concerts “Neo-classicism Pipa Song” and “Civil-Military” for promoting the traditional culture of Pipa, which combined performing and lecturing.
Many works have been commissioned for her to premiere. including Civil-Military, String of Silence, The war between Han Dynasty and Chu Dynasty, Guandi Yunchang, C’est si bon and Eternal Victory. Yu’s personal album “YUAN·CHUN” was published by the People’s Music Publishing House, and she was invited by RuiMing Music to publish her own works, which have received high praise.
