Sharleen Joynt
Coloratura soprano Sharleen Joynt has been praised for her "silvery, sparkling, substantial and resonant soprano" [Die Deutsche Bühne], her "scintillating high range, reminiscent of the most beautiful moments of Mady Mesplé" [Opernwelt], and "an artistic command that leaves the listener breathless" [Deutschland Radio]. In addition to her debut this season with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Ms. Joynt stars as Gilda in Rigoletto for the Edmonton Opera, Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos for Calgary Opera and as the Controller in Jonathon Dove’s Flight for Pacific Opera Victoria. The Ottawa, Ontario native recently made her Tanglewood debut in Candide as Cunegonde, a role that she has performed in Orlando - Florida, Anchorage - Alaska and for the Ravinia Festival in Illinois. In the 2017/18 season, Ms Joynt returned to Pacific Opera Victoria, appearing as Musetta in La bohème and was also featured in a new opera by Lembit Beecher with Opera Philadelphia. On the concert stage, she was soprano soloist in the rarely heard Goodall Requiem for The Bach Society of St. Louis. She has been engaged by the Metropolitan Opera, Augsburg Opera, Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Heidelburg Opera and Oper St. Gallen for such roles as Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Despina (Cosi fan tutte) and Adele (Die Fledermaus). Further credits include Zamira in Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Fallen Giant presented by the American Lyric Theater at Merkin Hall, and she was featured in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Mostly Mozart Festival in San Diego. A former Calgary Opera Emerging Artist, Ms. Joynt graduated from Mannes College of Music, NY, with a Masters degree in Vocal Performance. She is a prizewinner in the Liederkranz Foundation Competition, the George London Competition, the Young Concert Artists International Competition, the Licia-Albanese Foundation Competition, and the Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition.
