Shanghai Opera House Chorus

Found in 1956, the Shanghai Opera House Choir (SOHC) has the longest history in China. SOHC has become renowned for its wide repertoire ranging opera, oratorio, symphonic chorus, a cappella, solo and ensemble. Recent highlights with world-famous singers include opera Carmen, Aida, Faust, Turandot, La Boheme, La Traviata,, Otello, Romeo et Juliet, Tosca, Madam Butterfly, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci; symphonic chorus Four Seasons, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, No. 3, No. 8, Elijah, Carmina Burana, Messiah, La Damnation de Faust. SOHC also has a repertoire of Chinese traditional works such as the Yellow River Cantata, opera Thunderstorm, Li Bai, the Wager, etc.

Bridging the music of the East and the West, SOHC has traveled more than thirty countries and regions. Recent international tours have included Macao International Music Festival (1994-1997, 2000, 2002 -2008), Brisbane International Music Festival (1998), Saarbruecken Opera Festival (1999), Hong Kong Arts Festival (2005), Singapore Asian Arts Festival (2006, 2007), Savonlinna Opera Festival (2008), etc.
