Nikolai Schukoff

The Austrian tenor Nikolai Schukoff is internationally recognised for his versatility.


He opened the 2023/24 season as Jim Mahoney in Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam. He was then engaged in Bergen for concert performances of Elektra as Aegisth. Teatro São Carlos Lisbon presented the tenor as Florestan in Beethoven’s Fidelio. At the Teatro Real Madrid he sang the role of Walter in Weinberg’s Die Passagierin. Together with Diana Damrau he will go on tour with an Operetta Gala. Concerts take Nikolai Schukoff to Malmö for Mahler’s The Song of the Earth and to the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra for Mahler’s Eighth Symphony.


Major engagements in recent seasons include his return to the MET New York in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, his role debut as Tristan (Tristan und Isolde) in Toulouse, Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Parsifal at the Liceu Barcelona, Tambourmajor (Wozzeck) in Toulouse, Siegmund (Die Walküre) in Marseille, Herodes (Salome) in Berlin and Helsinki, his scenic role debut as Otello in St. Etienne, Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 with Simone Young conducting in Tokyo, Parsifal in a new production of the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse and Tiresias in Henze’s The Bassarids at the 2018 Salzburg Festival directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and with the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Kent Nagano.
