Liao Changyong
Renowned Baritone Liao Changyong is a deputy to the 12th National People’s Congress and a Plenary Member of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Liao is also Vice-President of the Chinese Musicians Association and Shanghai Musicians Association and is currently Deputy-President of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.
Liao Changyong is honoured with the title "No. 1 Baritone in Asia". He is an iconic singer in the contemporary Chinese music scene and is one of the few outstanding Chinese singers currently active on the world opera stage. He has won many international competitions, including the first prize of the 41st International Singing Competition in Toulouse, Operalia - The World Opera Competition founded by Plácido Domingo, and The Queen Sonja International Music Competition in Norway. Liao has sung in more than 30 operas and given over 100 performances around the world with famous musicians and conductors including Plácido Domingo, Lorin Maazel and Michel Plasson. His repertory includes The Barber of Seville, Un Ballo in Maschera, Carmen, La traviata, Rigoletto and Tea: A Mirror of Soul.
In recent years, Liao has been active in composition and production of Chinese original operas and art songs. In 2014 he produced and starred in the original opera The River of Spring and the original art song concert Ode to Grace and Refinement, which received critical acclaim in China and abroad.
