Dmitri Jurowski
Dmitri Jurowski is the youngest talent of the Jurowski musical dynasty which was founded by the Russian composer Vladimir. Born in Moscow in 1979, Dmitri was admitted to a special class for the study of the violoncello at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory at the tender age of 6.
After the family had moved to Berlin, Dmitri attended the Musikschule C.Ph.E. in that city before moving on to the Rostock Academy of Music and Drama, where he continued his study of the violoncello under G. von Bülow. In April 2003, he began to study conducting at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin with W. Müller.
Some months later, he started to work as second conductor with the Radio Orchestra Berlin under the guidance of his father Mikhail and as assistant-conductor for Parsifal at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua and Prokofievs Love for Three Oranges during a tour of Northern Italy. Since then Dmitri Jurowski created a fond bond with Italy which resulted in appearances at Bologna and La Fenice, Milano, Catania, Palermo, Parma. In 2005 he conducted a gala in honor of Giuseppe Verdi’s birthday.
Maestro Jurowski is also a passionate ambassador of the Russian opera repertoire with productions as The Golden Cockerel by Rimski-Korsakov at the Komische Oper Berlin, Shostakovich´s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk in Santiago de Chile, Eugene Onegin at the opera of Tel Aviv, Munich and Flanders Opera. He enjoyed a tremendous success conducting Rusalka at the Wexford Festival.
He also worked with orchestras like The Stockholm Radio Orchestra, Dresden Philharmoniker, BBC Manchester Orchestra, Hamburger Symphoniker, Residentie Orchestra The Hague. Last season he made his debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He recently conducted the inaugural concert of the Rostropovich festival in Moscow. He conducts regularly the Opera de Monte Carlo with productions as Eugene Onegin, Boris Godunov, Pique Dame, Mazeppa.
In 2010 he made his debut with the Wiener Symphoniker at the Bregenz Festival. Then he joined the Bolshoi Theater on a international tour of a production of Eugene Onegin, which played at Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro Real Madrid and Lucerne Festival.
Since 2010 Dmitri Jurowski is Music Director of the Flanders Opera where he enjoyed international acclaim conducting the Belgian scenic premiere of Mazeppa and Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky), Massenet´s Herodiade and a brillant New Year´s Concert. His next productions will be Aida in Antwerpen, Adelaida di Borgogna at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro and Pique Dame at the Paris Opera Bastille..
Dmitri Jurowski recorded Cherubini's Lo Sposo di tre e il Marito di Nessuna and Leonard Bernstein's Symphony No. 2.
