Zhang Yuchen

With an innate passion for the violin, Yuchen Zhang stands out as an exceptional talent in the realm of classical music. His prowess became evident early on, marking a solo debut with the Shanghai Chamber Orchestra at twelve years of age, and captivating audiences at the famed Shanghai Concert Hall soon after. Yuchen’s dedication to his craft has earned him several accolades, including the first prize at the Euroasia International Violin Competition, and the top prize at the Singapore National Piano & Violin Competition. Furthermore, Yuchen received the “Fund for Excellence” from the Koninklijk Conservatorium and clinched the KaE talent award from the Netherlands foundation. Upon his award achievement, Yuchen recorded his first CD album White Eagle Aviation in Europe, collaborating with Martijn Padding and Gregory Charette.

 

An emerging soloist, Yuchen has appeared with orchestras in Europe and Asia, featuring Residentie Orkest Den Haag, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and the Shanghai Chamber Orchestra. He has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Seiji Ozawa, Peter Stark, and Masaaki Suzuki. His performances have graced stages at major venues, including Concertgebouw, Suntory Hall, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

From the first notes at age four, Yuchen’s musical path has led him to diverse destinations worldwide. As a devoted chamber musician, Yuchen has shared stages with many prominent artists including Guy Braunstein, Marc-Olivier Dupin, Vadim Gluzman, Shlomo Mintz, András Schiff, and Maxim Vengerov. While studying at the Shanghai Conservatory, Yuchen, along with his string quartet, made their debut in Spain. They later showcased their talents at the Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. Additionally, Yuchen recorded the complete set of piano trios by Johannes Brahms, which are often heard on Radio Classique the West Singapore. Beyond this, he has been a regular feature in chamber recitals and festivals, including Musique de Chambre en Normandie, Festival Classique Nederlands, Dag van de componist Nederlands, and Spring Festival Den Haag.

 

Born in China, Yuchen had his early training at the Shanghai Conservatory, and was later awarded with full scholarship at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory, where he studied with Professor Qian Zhou. Upon graduation, his academic voyage continued with a Master’s endeavor at the Koninklijk Conservatorium, guided by Professor Arisa Fujita.
