Ba Wenjing
Born in Shanghai, Ba Wenjing began violin lessons at the age of four with Zhang Xin, a famous educator in China. He then went on to study with Ding Zhinuo, entering the high school attached to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1999 and being admitted to the Shanghai Conservatory in 2002. He also studied in the University of Southern California with Distinguished Professor Alice Schoenfeld.
For three years, Ba was a member of the Asian Youth Orchestra, rehearsing in extensive summer programmes under Maestro Sergiu Comissiona in Hong Kong. He also performed in the subsequent concerts which were given in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He also participated in the international Orchestral Academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival under the guidance of Christoph von Dohnányi, Christoph Eschenbach, Iván Fischer, Eiji Oue, Jaap van Zweden and Semyon Bychkov. As the orchestra’s Concertmaster he performed in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and at Interlaken, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall in Armenia, the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, and in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. He also participated as Concertmaster in a chamber orchestra tour during spring 2007 under the guidance of Peter von Wienhardt, performing on the luxury cruise ship MS Deutschland and in Brussels as part of the celebrations marking Germany’s presidency of the European Community.
Ba studied on the String Quartet Programme of the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid with Distinguished Professor Rainer Schmidt, a member of the Hagen Quartet. He also participated in masterclasses with Professor Walter Levin and Diemut Poppen, and played in the school orchestra’s tour of Spain under Maestro Sir Colin Davis.
Ba joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2008.
