Isserlis plays Dvořák
MASTERWORKS A
Programme
Two Cinderellas of music come to this concert: Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride is full of lively humour and character, but apart from its overture is rarely heard in the concert hall. Conductor Jahja Ling explores a selection of excerpts. Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in A is a beauty who never gets to go to the ball – its big sister (the B minor Concerto) is always invited instead. Steven Isserlis’ impassioned playing of this lyrical work will have you wondering why. And Brahms’ Second Symphony completes the concert with warmth and real happiness.
Choir Stall seats on Sat are available by popular demand!
Autograph session with Steven Isserlis will be arranged on 27 Apr after the concert.
