HONG KONG WEEK 2023@BANGKOK - OPENING PROGRAMME
HONG KONG PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA: SHOSTAKOVICH PIANO CONCERTO

Named “Orchestra of the Year” in 2019 by Gramophone, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra presents two colourful concerts at Mahidol University. In the first concert, renowned Thai pianist Poom Prommachart and HK Phil principal trumpet Nitiphum Bamrungbanthum will be featured in Shostakovich’s First Piano Concerto, a work that features solo trumpet almost as much as the piano. HK Phil Resident Conductor Lio Kuokman opens the programme with Ravel’s La valse and concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, which depicts in colourful music the exotic tales of A Thousand and One Nights.
