María Toledo
María Toledo is an icon of contemporary Flamenco. She is the first woman in Flamenco history to sing while accompanying herself on the piano. Starting from Flamenco’s essence and purity, she unleashes her innovative approach, which she displays with tangos and bulerías rhythms. Critics have always highlighted her artistic qualities both regarding her voice and her piano performance skills. She has a degree in Law and graduated in the Conservatory of Music.
She has seven albums published, with her last album Vicente (2023), she became no. 1 in the Worldwide iTunes album sales in Spain, something that already happened with her former album. She has been nominated to the Latin Grammy awards six times, including “Album of the Year” and “Best album in Flamenco music”. She has received numerous awards, such as the Novel Award at the Cante de Las Minas International Festival, First Prize at the Biennial of Cadiz and Prize for Cantes de Compás at Mairena del Alcor.
Maria Toledo is the flamenco singer who has performed Manuel de Falla’s El amor brujo the most number of times. She has performed at major venues worldwide such as the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Barbican in London, the Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, the Filarmónica in Paris, the Symphony Hall in Birmingham, The Queen’s Hall in Scotland and the Auditorium Rainier III in Montecarlo, being accompanied by prestigious orchestras such as the BBC Symphonic Orchestra, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra of Monaco, and the Symphonic Orchestra of Cannes.
