“Gloriously restrained”BBC on Unlocking

With the premiere of his orchestral work Unlocking in 2008, Lam Fung became not only the first Hong Kong composer but also the youngest Chinese composer ever to have received a commission from the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). His output ranges from original concert to media works to various arrangements, and has been performed around the world at festivals including representing Hong Kong at Asian Composers’ League Asian Music Festivals. Performers of his orchestral music have included the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra, and Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. He has also written music for the Philharmonia Orchestra’s award-winning virtual orchestra installation at the South Bank Centre in London. His latest orchestral work was commissioned by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and will receive its premiere at the Shanghai World Expo in September 2010.
