Dr Lesley Chan
Dr. Lesley Chan Ka-hei is a dedicated music educator, composer, and conductor with over 20 years of experience in the choral music scene. He has been a passionate advocate for arts education, collaborating with schools, professional arts groups, and organisations that support the arts.
Lesley completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and conducted research on the piano transcriptions of Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, earning his MMus in Historical Musicology from the University of London. Upon returning to Hong Kong, he furthered his interest in music composition at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His doctoral thesis focused on Chinese choral compositions. Committed to lifelong learning, he is currently pursuing additional studies in business and law while managing a busy professional schedule.
In his choral conducting career, Lesley has led youth and amateur choirs to success in several prestigious international competitions, including the Overall Championship at the International Choral Kathaumixw in British Columbia, Canada, in 2016, and the 34th Takarazuka International Chamber Choir Contest in Japan in 2018. He has also conducted opera choruses for productions directed by Professor Lo King-man, including Carmen, La Bohème, Madame Butterfly, The Merry Widow, and Norma. Currently, he is dedicated to mentoring several alumni choirs on a voluntary basis, expressing his gratitude to his alma maters.
