Dagmar Schellenberger
Dagmar Schellenberger received her musical education at Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden and started her international carrier after having won the International Dvořák Competition in Karlsbad while still pursuing her degree.
Schellenberger became member of the ensemble of Komische Oper Berlin, where she performed mostly Mozart repertoire. Her wide repertory ranges from Monteverdi’s L'incoronazione di Poppea, Arianna in Handel’s Giustino, Antonia and Giulietta in Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Rosalinde in Johann Strauss Jr’s Die Fledermaus, Hanna Glawari in Lehár’s Merry Widow to contemporary pieces such as the world-premieres of Maria Strada in Matthus’ Farinelli and Grace in B. Lang’s I Hate Mozart. Recently she has been developing the dramatic Fächer, such as Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, Eva in Die Meistersinger, Elsa in Lohengrin, Jenufa and Katja Kabanova, Lisa in Queen of Spades, Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier and Arabella. A very special achievement was her successful début as Blanche in Les Dialogues des Carmélites at La Scala under the baton of Riccardo Muti.
Schellenberger has performed at many international stages, including Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Zurich, Vienna, Buenos Aires, New York, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Marseille, Strasbourg, Venice, Nice, Nancy, Toulouse, Lausanne, Monte Carlo, Rome, Milan, Palermo, Geneva, Turin, Cagliari, Valencia, Seville, Jerusalem, Nagoya and Tokyo. She has worked with first range conductors such as Hartmut Haenchen, Milan Horvath, Kurt Masur, Fabio Luisi, Franz Welser-Möst, Sir Neville Marriner, Ralf Weikert, Leopold Hager, Rolf Reuter, Alain Lombard, Edo de Waart, Marek Jankowski, Michail Jurowski, Vladimir Jurowski, Ivor Bolton, Pierre Boulez, Kazushi Ono, Lawrence Renes, Christian Thielemann, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti and Yuri Temirkanov.
Schellenberger is also a well known concert and Lied singer. She performed St Matthew’s Passion with the Cleveland Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Shostakovich’s 14th Symphony with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, amongst others.
From 1993 she had an exclusive contract with EMI Classics where she recorded several highly praised recordings, including German Arias ranging from Handel to Wagner. Overall her respectable discography includes more than 30 CD and DVD recordings, such as a DVD from La Scala’s production of Les Dialogues des Carmélites, a DVD from Zurich’s production of Merry Widow, CDs of Orfeo ed Euridice, Königskinder, Die Toten Augen, to name just a few.
Since 2006 she is member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf where she sang Saffi in Der Zigeunerbaron, Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Katja Kabanova, Eva/ in Die Meistersinger and others. In 2008 she will perform there Elisabetta in Don Carlo and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni.
