Brian Montgomery

Brian Montgomery has performed to critical acclaim with important opera companies throughout the world, having performed 16 years in international level opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Arena di Verona, Bavarian State Opera, among others. He is a specialist in the Italian repertoire, having sung over 50 leading roles in Italian. Before immersing himself in opera, Brian was active in Seattle, USA in the local musical and summerstock community, appearing in several musicals.

Brian moved to Hong Kong in 2004 and took up the position of Head of Vocal Studies at the Academy for Performing Arts where he administered the Vocal Department and produced operas for 5 years. In 2009 he resigned to pursue other interests. While in Hong Kong he has performed regularly with Opera Hong Kong and in Shanghai and Beijing at the National Centre for Performing Arts. He is now an Advisor to the Beijing Comic Opera Festival and Beijing Mephisto Opera. He is also president of his own company, Classical Vocal Arts, which promotes classical voice and performing in Hong Kong and China.

Brian has given Master classes at Xinhai Conservatory in Guangzhou, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Conservatory, and several Universities in the United States. He speaks 5 Western languages: English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. He has sung in over 80 operas, over 60 lead roles. He has also concertized a great deal the past few years with the HK Philharmonic, HK Sinfonietta, Bach Choir, Oratorio Society.
