A voice described by Süddeutsche Zeitung as “brilliant to its highest notes” coloratura soprano Danae Kontora trained at Munich’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater and Bayerische Theaterakademie August Everding before joining Oper Frankfurt’s Opernstudio. In 2015, Danae was nominated for "Best Young Singer" by Opernwelt and in the same year she was awarded the Bayerische Kunstförderpreis.

A former ensemble member at Oper Leipzig, Danae Kontora performed an interesting mix of roles during her two seasons including Blumenmädchen I (Parsifal), Blondchen (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), and, for the first time, Die Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte) a role which has subsequently formed the backbone of her professional seasons.

In concert Danae Kontora joined Andris Nelsons and the Gewandhausorchester as part of the orchestra’s 275th Anniversary Celebrations and she’s performed Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester. In recent seasons, Kontora has appeared at the Edinburgh International Festival as Waldvogel in Wagner’s Siegfried with The Hallé under Sir Mark Elder and as Woglinde in Götterdammerung with Sir Andrew Davis and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Current season highlights include a BBC Proms debut with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, while opera engagements include Die Königin der Nacht with Komishce Oper Berlin in Berlin, Macao and Taiwan, the world premiere of Lucia Ronchetti’s Inferno for Oper Frankfurt, and the role of Frantzi (Die Weiden) for Wiener Staatsoper.
