Austrian soprano Christina Gansch is the winner of the 2014 Kathleen Ferrier Award and is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
In the 2019/20 season Christina makes her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich as Gretel Hansel und Gretel and Marzelline Fidelio for the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and in a new production for the Glyndebourne Festival In concert she sings Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 at the BBC Proms and Edinburgh Festival with the BBC Symphony Orchestra/Semyon Bychkov; Zerlina in concert performances of Don Giovanni in Vienna and Lucerne with Musica Aeterna/Teodor Currentzis; Gretchen in Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin/John Storgards and Beethoven’s Egmont with the Camerata Salzburg/Jérémie Rhorer.
Recent successes include her American debut as Dorinda Orlando for the San Francisco Opera; Gretchen in a new production of Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust for the Hamburgische Staatsoper; Najade in new production of Ariadne auf Naxos for the Teatro alla Scala, Milan and Dew Fairy in a new production of Hänsel und Gretel for the Royal Opera. Christina has also appeared at the Salzburger Festspiele as Servilia and Barbarina Le nozze di Figaro; the Glyndebourne Festival as Mélisande Pelléas et Mélisande; the Deutsche Staatsoper as Waldvogel Siegfried under Barenboim; the Opéra national de Paris and Royal Opera as Papagena Die Zauberflöte; the Opéra national de Montpellier as Servilia and Amore Orfeo ed Euridice and the Hamburgische Staatsoper as Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Gretel Hänselund Gretel, Marzelline Fidelio, in the title role of Handel’s Almira, Oscar Un balloin maschera, Ascagne Les Troyens, Jemmy Guillaume Tell and Constance Dialogues des carmélites.
In concert, she has appeared in the Musikverein with the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien, the Wiener Konzerthaus as part of the international festival Resonanzen, the Verbier Festival, at the Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, at London’s Wigmore Hall, the Innsbrucker Festwochen and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Highlights include Zerlina Don Giovanni in St Peterburg and Dortmund (MusicAeterna/Teodor Currentzis); Ilia Idomeneo at the Igolstadt Festival (Concerto Köln/Kent Nagano), Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem (Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Hamburg/Kent Nagano); Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore and Coronation Mass at the Innsbruck Festival (Academia Montis Regalis/Alessandro De Marchi), Mozart’s Requiem (Göteborgs Symfoniker/Simone Young) and Mozart’s Mass in C Minor (Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg/Adam Fischer).
