Sara Hershkowitz

Soprano Sara Hershkowitz is a native of Los Angeles, California, and was engaged as a principle artist at the Bremen Opera from 2007-2012. She is the recipient of two nominations in Opernwelt for Singer of the Year, for her portrayal of Zaide in the German Premiere of Mozart/Czernowin's Zaide/Adama, and also for Donna Anna in Don Giovanni.

She has performed roles such as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Venus/Gepopo in Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre, the Infantin in Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Zaide in Zaide/Adama, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and Konstanze in The Abduction from the Seraglio.

In the 2011-2012 season Sara Hershkowitz sang the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute at the Hamburger Staatsoper, the New Israeli Opera, the Deutsches National Theater Weimar and Theater Kiel. She appeared at Theater Bremen as the Governess in Benjamin Britten's Turn of the Screw, Arminda in La Finta Giardiniera at Theater Bonn, and as Adele in Die Fledermausat the Opéra National de Lorraine. In March 2012 she sang the soprano in Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, at the St. Petri Dom with the Bremen Philharmonic. In June 2012 she was heard in the title role of J.C. Bach's recently rediscovered opera Zanaida at the Wiener Konzerthaus with Opera Fuoco.

In 2013 she will sing the role of Madame Herz in Mozart's The Impresario with the Hong Kong Philhamonic, and Bach's Zanaida in Malta with the Valletta International Baroque Festival. In September 2012 the first commercial CD recording of Zanaida will be released on the French CD label Zig-Zag Territoires.

Ms. Hershkowitz is a frequent guest with David Sterns Paris-based ensemble Opera Fuoco, with whom she has performed Arminda in La Finta Giardiniera, Madame Herz in The Impresario, and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, in a a production by Yoshi Oida, which was broadcast live on ARTE.

Sara Hershkowitz was a member of the Salzburger Festspiele Young Singers Project, and the Aix-en-Provence Festival Académie européenne. She received her B.A. in Vocal Performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and received the Audience Award in the Klassik-Mania Vocal Competition in Vienna.
